Cutting Down on Christmas Light Costs

Blog by Team Grandy | December 20th, 2010

Who doesn't love the pretty glow and season spirit that Christmas lights bring to a home? Not many. However, on the flip side, you won't find many out there who enjoy the cost of keeping those pretty lights glowing all season long!

It is still possible to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds; pretty lights, and affordable electric bills! Many people do not realize how expensive keeping those holiday lights on can be. Keep the following tips in mind when using your Christmas lights this year; it can save you a bundle! Here are a couple of tips from Team Grandy to help you save this Christmas:

1.) Get your lights on a timer - Even if you wake up in the morning at 8:00am and turn them off, you could be saving so much more money if you had your lights on a timer that would automatically turn off around 2:00AM or 3:00AM (the time that most people are sleeping and won't miss them anyways!). Think about that difference...if you were to have your lights turn off at 2:00AM rather than 8:00AM, you would save on 6 hrs per day of having your lights on!

2.) Look into getting LED Christmas Lights - These lights will cost you a bit more, but in the long run, they could save you big money! The LED lights will use about 80-90% less energy than traditional Christmas lights!

3.) Perhaps skip a couple of weeks - If you are concerned about your electricity bills, consider perhaps waiting an extra week or two after November to put your lights up, and go ahead and take them down before the New Years...cutting off a couple of weeks can save you some money!
